November 27, 2012

my day job.

although you mostly see my fun adventures, inspirations, plans, and musings here on the blog-
by title, i am a student nurse day in and day out.
this blog acts as my creative outlet to channel my inspirations and connect with all my friends and family wherever they might be. so really, most often my life looks a lot like this.
it is always a constant slew of papers, exams, presentations, homework, and whatnot.
as of next thursday i am off of school for six weeks.
yes, six whopping weeks before it is back to the grind for one more year of school.

what do you do by day? do you love it? have a creative outlet?

June 7, 2012

it's funny.

read this. its hilarious.

have a great thrusday!
almost slobound and you know what that means... partyyy.
the very last party EVER in walnut.
wahoo!

May 22, 2012

semester two.

we're off and running,
actually sprinting to be more exact.
semester two.
boom!

here s a little glimpse of my next 12 weeks of school.

maternity clinical at john muir hospital in walnut creek: rotating through antepartum, postpartum (mother-baby), labor and delivery, NICU, and the well baby nursery.

community health clinical at a san francisco general hospital outpatient clinic: not solidified yet but i will be rotating through a health promotion unit at the hospital doing wellness assessment, disease maintenance, pre and post op assistance, head to toe exams, wound care, immunizations, patient education, procedure help, and whatever else they throw at me.

advanced pathophysiology and pharmacology: like i said before, death by patho/pharm. dr. lemos round two but advanced. hardest class ever. brace yourself.

health promotion: lecture to accompany maternity and community health looking at wellness across the lifespan as it related to primary and secondary prevention rather than disease and acute hospitalization.

instructional design and healthcare informatics: fancy for evidence based practice research with an emphasis in patient education, information literacy, cultural sensitivity, and professional leadership through the clinical nurse leader role.

oh and throw in there a few standardized nursing exams, clinical preceptor evaluations, skills tests for the hospital, and case manager new grad meetings.
there you have it.
judging by the first two days (med calc tests on day one- really?!)
you may not be seeing much of me on the blog but wanted to write this down because there are too many acronyms when i try to explain this on the phone to you fun people.

as for that week or so of no blogging, i was busy on my week break. wahoo.
hanging at home with the family and celebrating mothers day
shopping with mom and lunching with dad
pampering my poor little post patella fracture/sock wearing toes with a pedi
visiting the boy down south for some serious 'r and r' and delicious picnic dates
getting sunburnt and drinking beer at 3pm (like every good nurse does)
driving from northern to southern california and back (but its all worth it to see that cute boy)
enjoying a few little moments of extend family and friends time
trying to catch a breather before this big semester

hope your tuesday is treating you well!
enjoy your wednesday and i'll talk to you soon!

May 8, 2012

happy national nurses appreciation week!

thanks to all the nurses that care for those i know and love-
excited to be like you someday!

i'll take it!

on the road and almost one semester down.
come saturday, i'll have five semesters to go!
wahoo!

{an addition to humor you}

May 7, 2012

moving along.

since the last post, not much has changed.
sadly,
i think i am still in comfy athletic clothes,
slightly wired on caffeine,
slowly crossing things of my 'to-do' list,
and
studying.

ventured out to noe valley today.
heard so many good things about their little bakery that i decided to treat myself.
so-gosh-darn-cute.
like i've said before,
i seriously have a major obsession with this city.
some little snapshots of my outings.
let's be real though.
path/pharm, you may be the death of me.
12pm saturday, may 12th... come soon please.
and this is another little product from the weekend.
our global health project for the nursing poster symposium this week.
done.

exhausted and few more things to check off the list.
good night folks (if you are reading this soon)
and if you are catching this on monday- have a great day!

spring break baby.

February 20, 2012

slobound.

slobound (verb): a facebook term used by cal poly alumni for status updates when venturing
back to san luis obispo for the weekend.
(synonyms for 'slobound' include: 'i wish i never had to leave slo', 'college was the best ever', 'i still party even though i am supposed to be a big, graduated person', 'i will be on marsh street this weekend between 10pm and 2am', 'slo is better than my hometown', and 'i will eat firestone, get breakfast burritos, see everyone that i graduated with at the bars, and eat taco bell at 1:30am")

never really got this facebook status memo until i moved up here and realized the crazy high that you get when you are driving on the 101 and almost to slo on a friday evening.
thanks nursing school for bringing me up here, letting me love the city, but allowing me to go to slo to have a great time. i now understand the thrill of 'slobounding'.
(roomies- love youuu!)
case and point, slo was great this weekend.
just the perfect amount of family and friends time before this nursing school steals my sleep and life for the next few weeks.

happy monday!

san francisco.

soooo i spent this past weekend in sf...
and it was
a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!
i checked out grad schools. and then fell in love with them!!!
i was a wannabe med student for the day and it was awesome.
i met some incredible doctors, nurses, and hospital staff (i am sooo lucky!).
i toured around the city with the best tour guide ever, thanks sean.
i had great dinners and cocktail hours with mom and aunt jane. so yummy and fun.
i hit the town with some of my favorite friends, tommy and sean you're awesome!
i shopped the boutiquey streets and found some goodies (woops).
and i fell in love with san francisco even more.

im certainly hoping that i can get into grad school there.
until then ill just be visiting often and praying for an acceptance letter.
also, i fell in love with this print. so i bought it:)

i love you sf and hopefully someday you will be my home.

March 16, 2011

February 22, 2011

cayucos.

this weekend i was fortunate/spoiled/lucky to be able to head 20 miles up north to one of my favorite little towns in the whole wide world--- cayucos, cailfornia.
my roomie's parents have a few houses there and a small group of us went there for the weekend to relax and have a little fun! (thank you roomies family:)
it was great to just hang out and do nothing. it almost felt like summer or spring break and to think that think that i live in a place that most people come to for vacation. so crazy and lucky!
anyway, it was great to spend some quality time with my friends (that are more like family) and to soak up a little pacific ocean time! oh and that whole three day weekend thing was awesome too!

hope you had a relaxing and fun weekend!
happy tuesday!

January 3, 2011

June 19, 2010

junie b.

hello june, you sure have come and gone by so fast. what have you been up to this month?

well, funny you should ask. its been quite a busy month. a little of this a little of that and a lot of fun! heres a few things that have excited me or consumed my time this month...

::: spring quarter completion: i successfully tore up the dance floor on the weekends downtown, became a poolside tanner, drank equal amounts of coffee, long island, and water (dont worry im still responsible:), and received an A- in neuroanatomy... 3.8gpa woohoooo!

::: babysitting: chapters of junie b. jones, diaper changes, swim lessons, every type of craft, pb and j's, and picnic lunches by the creek have defined my summer thus far. ive been getting all of the child care hours in that i can before i head off to argentina. gotta love under the table cash when you're a college student looking to make some bank before you head out of the country to spend it all!

:::new obsessions: 1) i realize that im about ten years behind the world but i have a new found passion... sudoku! its going to be my best friend on my double digit bus rides around argentina. 2) another little pleasure- taking a day trip down south to azusa pacific university with brandon to check out their DPT (physical therapy) program. it was fabulous and were praying he gets accepted! 3) lastly, i made a trip to the avila valley barn to get some "u-pick" peaches that were consumed within two days. gonna need more. oh how i love u-pick! (p.s. on the plan for this week in the kitchen- homemade cheese and olallieberry jam)

::: gardening: the other day i got to spend the day weeding, planing, and watering. growing up this was a weekend norm but since my little years i haven't done much, beside eat the fruits and veggies. i loved gardening! it was so great to bring back the mud between my toes and i cant wait to eat the things that i planted now! beside that, the greenhouse is close to completion and i will have to update you more on that because it is b-e-a-utiful! as for now, i am looking forward to butter lettuce, sweet peppers, cilantro, italian basil, and eggplant!

::: packing, planning, and preparing for ARGENTINA!!! two weeks from today i arrive!!!

(much more to come in the following weeks i promise! argentina updates as i travel!)

hurry finals. im ready for my christmas at home!
