centered.

i'll be honest, as much as i have tried to embrace this in-between time while i wait for a job to come around and after all of the constant stimulation of twenty-something straight years of school culminating in the craziness of masters projects, i am quite far from relaxed.
while i am firm in my desire to pursue the best possible position for me, i remain restless in the everyday.

if it weren't for my little friend yoga, i don't think i would be sane.
(via)

the past few months have given me the blessing of time.
time in which i have used to explore several different types of yoga and made it a conscious practice to set aside time to practice mindfulness in the midst of my always-thinking-little-mind.
my inner contentment has never been more centered than in the little hours of the day on my mat.

and to that i say,
om.

the space between.

school and job.
You’ll be fine. You’re 25. Feeling unsure and lost is part of your path. Don’t avoid it. See what those feelings are showing you and use it. Take a breath. You’ll be okay. Even if you don’t feel okay all the time.

sometimes i forget how crazy it is that i live less than a mile away from this beauty.
and i see it everyday.

powerfully sexy.

(via)

You know what’s really, powerfully sexy?
A sense of humor. A taste for adventure. A healthy glow. Hips to grab on to. Openness. Confidence. Humility. Appetite. Intuition. Smart-ass comebacks. Presence. A quick wit. Dirty jokes told by an innocent-looking lady. A storyteller. A genius. A doctor. A new mother.
A woman who realizes how beautiful she is.

anniversary trippin'.

a few snapshots from the absolute PERFECT weekend with my boo.
we hiked, cooked, wine tasted, relaxed, campfired, bookstore shopped, coffee dated, played cards, and just simply enjoyed each others company.
something that we rarely have the time to do with just the two of us.
like i said, it was simply perfect.
i mean, lets be honest, is this not the sweetest face ever?!
and if that isn't cute enough, he gave me a copy of '1000 places to see before you die' tabbed with our traveling to-do list for our future and the sweetest of cards for our 'no-present' celebration.
what a catch.

happy anniversary b- i'm the luckiest.

(mush fest is over now, i promise:)

six years.

happy six year anniversary b!

this week brandon and i celebrated six years of mushy gushy romance.
i can honestly say i have never been more in love than i am today.
everyday is a blessing with you b and i can't imagine life without you by my side.
and a few more.
the most sincere, loyal, conscientious, hardworking, hilarious, handsome hunk i know.
off to a weekend of camping, hiking, bonfires, wine tasting, brunching, and smooching in the malibu hills with my lover boy.

i love you b.

July 1, 2013

lessons i'm learning.

1. there is a reason why people are where they are in their life- take time to ask about it.
2. let the world tell you no- try until you have exhausted all else.
3. if something is a priority in your life you will make time for it- if not, you are choosing to not make it a priority.
4. surrounding yourself with others that differ from you will allow you to grow- comfortability comes in facing the unknown.
5. personal time is more valuable than the world makes it out to be- reconnect with your reality.
6. taking time to 'just be' is the best time you can take.

I think we realize a little more 'something' about ourselves each time we extend ourselves to others. take time to do it this week.

love.

'Love liberates.
It doesn’t bind.
Love says. ‘I love you.
I love you if you’re in China.
I love you if you’re across town.
I love you if you’re in Harlem.
I love you.
I would like to be near you.
I’d like to have your arms around me.
I’d like to hear your voice in my ear.
But that’s not possible now.
So I love you. Go.’
-Maya Angelou
Thanks for letting me go to san francisco with all of your love.
I can see the light at the end of the long-distance tunnel.
And that light is the best thing ever.

news now.

the addition of a tv in close proximity to my bed has thoroughly propelled my love for news and fascination with keeping up to date on the happenings in medicine, community health, and unfortunately all the tragedies that are happening around the world right now
(kidnappings, bombings, foreign affairs, homicides- really world, really?).
(via)
a few of my favorite sources, in addition to television coverage and occasional newspaper pick-up.

the new yorker (fave source for lay-person medical articles)

cnn (iphone app)

the every girl ('in the know' series)

the new york times (duh)

and near and dear to my heart is this story {(1) & (2)}, making headline news in the bay area this week.
this sweet man was my very first patient as a student nurse.
he was a well loved, humble homeless man that was struck last year by a hit-and-run driver suffering a traumatic brain and spinal injury resulting in paralization and absence of speech.
the community in north beach and his family back home raised over seventeen-thousand dollars to airlift him with a nurse back home to be with his family during his recovery.

see there is a little hope out there.
happy friday friends!

pursuit of happiness.

on a daily basis here in the city,
(san francisco to be exact)
i find such happiness.

my career seems to be coming together,
my living situation is the best,
my opportunities seem endless,
my creative desires are being met,
my social tendencies are perfectly provided for,
and this city is the mecca of all that is fun for the twenty-something.
(the only really BIG thing missing is the boy.
none-the-less, i continue to remain blissfully in love with him from 400 miles away.)
(via)

in my consistent pursuit of happiness and contentment, i have found three things that i absolutely love.
farmers marketing.
picnicking.
yoga.
three simple, fairly inexpensive, and refreshing ways to celebrate the everyday.

i highly suggest adding these local adventures to your weekly routine.
what makes you the happiest everyday?

April 29, 2013

boston strong.

today is the two week mark since the boston bombings.
for some reason, the boston bombings hit me harder than any of the other large terrorist events in my life so far.
maybe it was because of my age,
my current big city independence,
recent attendance at the slo marathon with many close people participating,
my previous admiration for with mass general hospital and it's staff,
or position as a budding nurse that can't help but imagine what that would have been like if i was a nurse there.

whatever it was, it's been on my mind and i have thoroughly been invested in the news follow-up.
so i just have to share these.

 stay strong boston.
you will not soon be forgotten.
i can't wait to come see you someday.

::: if you are at all inclined, here is an article (why boston hospitals were ready) that i absolutely love from one of my favorite medical writers, atul gawande:::

April 26, 2013

twenty-four.

guess what, im twenty-four!
yesterday i celebrated another fabulous year in my life.

i have a strong feeling that this coming year, will be one for the books.
grad school graduation,
nursing license,
first 'big girl' job,
just to name a few and i'm thinking that there will be even more unexpected bliss.

to celebrate yesterday, my roomie and i held a little 'wine and cheese' party in our apartment with a bunch of girlfriends from school.
they showered me with love and we chowed down on cheese pairings.
youm-yum-yum.
too much fun.

cheers to a brand new year emily ann palmer (thats me!).

April 19, 2013

perception.

definitely worth passing on.
i think we should all, my self included, take a a little bit of this to heart.
powerful, huh?

April 15, 2013

identify me.

If you want to identify me, ask me not where I live, or what I like to eat, or how I comb my hair, but ask me what I am living for, in detail, ask me what I think is keeping me from living fully for the thing I want to live for.

pedi nursing.

my most anticipated college course thus far is finally here.
pediatrics.
i am seriously already in love and i haven't even spent a day in the hospital.
i am sure that you will be hearing lots from me about peds on this fine little embitions
because it's my dream to work as a nurse in pediatric neurology.
pediatric icu, see you tomorrow.

we walked into orientation and our desks had these little surprises awaiting our arrival
(only in peds would your teacher give you stickers and blowfish toys for painful procedure distraction).
our first assignment was to create an art piece of one of our most vivid childhood memories and explain a bunch of developmental stuff on the back so i decided to paint
'sunday afternoons comprised of splitting dr. pepper and gardening with dad'.
we studied pediatric med calculations, fluid dosing, and iv administration,
and i decided that even that is cuter when you know its for peds.
plus, i get to wear colored scrubs... omg.

i (heart) pediatric nursing so darn much.

January 28, 2013

life is good.

i know other bloggers struggle with portraying only the glamorous, cute, frilly side of life
but not me, not today.
i am fortunate.

life is good.
everything is falling into place and i am...

classes are great and challenging,
san francisco is seriously feeling like my second home and i love it,
b is a sweet as can be,
my family is awesome as always,
i need for nothing and want for very little in my spoiled little world,
nursing is the best and being in a neuro icu and pediatrics is even better,
jobs and connections seem to be falling into place,
my nursing girls and college besties are so hilarious and supportive,
and as of this week i may be a new renter in the cutest of city places.

life is good.
so very good.

don't get me wrong, we all have our struggles and down times but today is a happy, happy day.

January 8, 2013
